Learning Log 12

Date: 27/09/2016
This week I learned about how to create rollover caption and rollover image. That was about the text we clicked and it would appear image that related to the text. In addition, it was also about the image that we clicked and it would appear the text that related to that image. Moreover, I learned about how to add the sound for teaching vocabulary. Beside, I learned about how to create interactions in this program by clicking learning interaction. After that, it would appear several interactions here to choose. For example, word search, or memory game. All of these could atract students wanted to learned and could understand the lesson more.

This week I learned about how to create all types of test in Adobe Captivate 8. There were 5 important types, such as, multiple choice, true/false, fill-in-the-blank, short answer, and matching. All of these types were usually used in CALL. Moreover, in each type there was different way to create. It was also make students interested in or wanted to learn lesson more.

Learning Log 10

This week, I learned about doing CALL in Thailand. In Thailand, English was taught in a foreign language in school and academic institute. All parties have put the effort to improve the learner’s competence. However, after being measured by national test such as ONET, TOEFL, or TOEIC, it has been unsatisfactory. From this unsatisfactory, the educators or teachers have to pay attention to improve ELT in Thailand.Because of the availability of education technologies, computers have influenced of communication in our life. These technologies have a powerful tools to communicate with people around the world. Moreover, it play a vital role in teaching language.For examples, textbooks, program course, CDs, video, which require computer and technologies. Moreover, I learned to create CALL in Adobe Captivate 8. I did the first page that student have to sign up their name, menu, and pre-test. It was not difficult but it was a little bit complex.

Learning Log 9

This week I learned about Computer Assisted Language Learning and English Language Teaching in Thailand: Overview. This study was about applying CALL in Thailand. The main purpose was to improve or develope the learner's competence. For the reason that Thai students had unsatisfied of nation's test score such as O-NET, TOEFL, TOEIC, etc. So, the educators or teachers had to pay attention to improve ELT in Thailand. Moreover, I tried to use Adobe Captivate 8 in each tools to be the basic of doing CALL next class.

Learning Log 8

Date: 30/08/2016
       This week, I learned about kinds of CAI. It was seven kinds. 
1. Tutorial instruction was the program that gave the content to students in text, picture, audio, and all of them. After that, students had to answer the questions and they woild have a feedback when the finished the task.
2. Drills and practise was the program that had only questions or problems to the students to solve them.
3. Simulation was the program that simulate situation from the truth to practise skills to the students.
4. Instructional games ws the program that encourage students to learn the lesson.
5. Discovery was the program that wanted students learned from their experience.
6. Problem-solving was the program that wanted students to think and decide to do something.
7. Tests was the program that tested the student's knowledge.
     Moreover, I learned about Pro's and Con's of this program and the process of creating CALL. In addition, we had to present the study which was about the process of applying new technology in English teaching is challenged English teacher. Applying CALL to teach has become a new trend to advanced countries. There is integration between technology and English teaching efficiently and successfully depends on the teachers’ effort and professional abilities. Moreover, the government and education authorities concerned to put  the emphasis on the need of information technology in school, fostering the coordination of policy and resources. Though this process is difficult and complicated, it can help teachers to build up confidence and consult the innovation. It’s hoped that the difficulties teacher has faced in the study can serve the future reference for improving language learning strategies in college English teacher.

This week the teacher checked our pair work about parellel concordance in Thai language. I learned about the words false friends that Thai people used from English in different meaning. Moreover, this day we presented the article about language learning. As a newly-emerged modern foreign language teaching form, multimedia foreign language teaching waits for the test of time. Its success depended on whether language teachers were initiative or not, whether they could fully exert the advantages of multimedia teaching to find and solve problems. As long as they deepen their research, sumed up experiences and improved teaching methods constantly, multimedia would bring about more positive changes to foreign language teaching and therefore greater achievements would be made in our foreign language teaching.

Learning Log 6

        This day I learned how to combine the data and made my special corpus named fruit. The teacher taught me to give the topic of the information I collected. There were 58291 words in my corpus. My topic was fruit. There were terminologies and collocation word such as dried fruit, rich in vitamin, or healthy diet. There were local grammar liked one word had two parts of speech. In addition, It was style of word liked personification, use of if-clause, relative clause, infinitive & gerund, etc. Moreover, there were content knowledge. For example, use of known as to clarify terms. So, this day I had lot of fun when I did the challenging task that my teacher asked me to do.

Learning Log 5

          This day, teacher thought me about how to find the use word in Corpus lead. When I wanted to find some word, I could type it in this program and the information appeared. After that, teacher thought me about how to collect the information to construct the special Corpus by myself. I had to collect all the information in Notepad. I also saved the in .txt to make the data ready to do the special corpus. Moreover, I could know how many words I had with Antconc Program. It counted every words in my file.

Learning Log 4

       This week, I learned about Corpus Linguistics by Dr. Kriangkrai Vathanalaoha. Corpus was not only a collection of words but also a seek for the truth. It was a theory and methadology of language. I knew that corpus was created since 1897. It was around 19th - early 20th century.The first corpus wrote about child diaries. It also had two cases; The case for introspection that focus on language competence rather than language performance. The case for empiricism which belived that introspective was artificial. We couldn't test it in real life. In addition, I knew the types of corpera. There were seven types.  

1. Special Corpus: It was a specific information.
2. General Corpus: It was broad and large words of spoken and written British English.
3. Mutilingual Corpus: It added Spanish or American English and Indian English.
4. Parallel Corpus: It was a translate text from English language to another language.
5. Learner Corpus: Language use crated by people learning a particular language.
6. Historical or Diachronic Corpus: 1.5 million words of text from 700AD - 1700AD. 
7. Monitor Corpus: Continually being added to.

      Besides, I learned the concordances which were about we could understand a word by its context.In Corpus, we could find the collections that were used mostly. We could know the number of words, or the frequency by Distribution information. Furthermore, I tried to use corpus by searching some phrase such as broad daylight which meant in negative way or swanning aroun. And .If I didn't know some word that use with another word I could search "something * about her" and the word or adjective that could be used with women would be appeared. Finally, Corpus was a useful material that the students or teachers could use to collect the information or could find real information to apply to their studying or teaching.

Learning Log 3

    This week I joined the seminar in my major which was about applying linguistics for teaching by Miss. Budsaba Kanoksilapatham. I learned many useful things from her. For examples, The English teachers had to know the pedagogy or teaching methods and Linguistic competence. I learned a way to pronounce the letter “h”, consonant sounds (think, thank, them, the) and vowel sounds (guess, said, bread, friend, full-fool, back-bag) I also learned the ways to stress vocabulary such as the words permit, character, ceremony, amaze, catastrophe, bibliography, evaluation, majority, or hippopotamus, etc.  In addition, I learned a collocations such as economic crisis, situation policy, red rose, black and white, etc. I learned Pragmatics. It was the way to act or communicate with a person who didn’t want a direct answer but the action. Moreover, I learned some tips of Sociolinguistics which was an appropriate language to use for appropriate situation and people. I could identify the Semantics, which was American English and British English. For instance, eraser, pants are NAmE but rubber, trousers are BrE. Besides, I knew the meaning of some word such as astound is stronger than surprise. I learned Discourse which liked the pattern in English and Corpus which had a lot of important and useful information for teachers. From this opportunity to join the seminar, I learned many important thing in Linguistics and it could inspired me to improve my skills and be a good English teacher in the future.

    On this day, I’ve learned to add gadgets on blog. First of all, the teacher assigned me to find clock, calendar and counter for blog. After that, the teacher taught me how to get the code of them and applied to use in my blog. I also learned how to link friends from my blog to another I wanted. I also added video that related to speaking skill.  Next, I learned to make my profile and my learning log in blog by making text, saving work, and sharing them to the public.

    On this day, I’ve learned to make weblog or blog. First of all, the teacher assigned me to have gmail account because I had to log in blog by using gmail. After that, the teacher told me about a meaning of blog. I also learned some new vocabulary such as technophobe which meant a person who fears, dislikes, or avoids new technology. Techie which meant a person who is expert in or enthusiastic about technology, especially computing. Tech-savvy which meant proficient in the use of technology, especially computers. Next, I learned to find and select free template for blog on the internet. In addition, I also learned about acronyms that were used in this course.

These are the abbreviation I've learned in class.

IT = Information Technology is the application of computer to store, retrieve, transmit and manipulate data, often in the context of a business or other enterprise. 

ICT = Information and  Communication Technology is an extended term for information Technology (IT) which stresses the role of unified communications and the integration of telecommunications ), computers as well as necessary enterprise software, middleware, storage, and audio-visual systems, which enable users to access, store, transmit, and manipulate information.

CAI = Computer Assisted Instruction  is an interactive instructional technique whereby a computer is used to present the instructional material and monitor the learning that takes place. CAI uses a combination of text, graphics, sound and video in enhancing the learning process. The computer has many purposes in the classroom, and it can be utilized to help a student in all areas of the curriculum.

CALL = Computer Assisted Language Learning is the search for and study of applications of the computer in language teaching and learning.

CMC = Computer Mediated Communication  is defined as any human communication that occurs through the use of two or more electronic devices. While the term hastraditionally referred to those communications that occur via computer-mediated formats , it has also been applied to other forms of text-based interaction such as text messaging. 

TELL = Technology Enhanced Language Learning  is the use of the computer as a technological innovation to display multimedia as a means of complementing a teaching method langauge teachers.

WBI = Web - based Instruction is teaching and learning supported by the attributes and resources of the Internet.

MUD = Multi - User Dungeon is a multiplayer real-time virtual world, usually text-based. MUDs combine elements of role-playing games,hack and slash, player versus player, interactive fiction, and online chat.

MOO = Multiple Domain Object Oriented is a text-based online virtual reality system to which multiple users (players) are connected at the same time.
